The Audio Description Association (Hong Kong)

(AuDeAHK)

Dr. Dawning Leung holds a Ph.D. from University College London, UK, where she conducted pioneering research on Chinese Audio Description (AD). She is the founder of the Audio Description Association (Hong Kong) (AuDeAHK) and manages numerous funded social initiatives aimed at raising the standards and profiles of AD in the Chinese world. Dr. Leung designs AD training curricula, teaches AD at universities, and delivers AD training workshops and certificate courses to the public. As a dedicated AD practitioner, she has created AD for major commercial films, including popular streaming platform releases, as well as for TV and radio programmes for the local broadcaster Radio Television Hong Kong. She also develops distinctive AD genres, such as AD for picturebooks, AD for lion dances and AD for Cantonese opera performances.

  1. Integrating audio description (AD) into various formats (media and real-life events)

  2. Core skills and competencies for audio describers.

  3. Effective training methods for aspiring audio describers.

  4. Continuous professional development in the field of AD.

  5. Evaluating and improving AD quality: feedback and assessment techniques.

 

The workshop will include:

  1. Overview of AD practices

  2. In-depth discussions on training and professional development in AD.

  3. Interactive activities to practise and refine AD skills.

  4. Discussions on identifying and addressing challenges in AD production.

  5. Case studies of successful social innovation initiatives, including "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: "On-the-Move" Audio Description Programme," which aims to provide inclusive and accessible arts, culture, sports, and outdoor activities.
